The exhibition ‘?’, combines the work of eight second year Fine Art BA students who have produced a body work in a variety of mediums, using many subjects and their own unique methods to create a varied and exciting exploration into the central theme of portraiture.
The viewer’s initial thought of ‘portraiture’ is most likely a classical oil painting of a posed subject from days gone by; a static experience which becomes increasingly hard to engage with in modern times. However, with these contemporary interpretations the artists have proposed an expanded view of the traditional idea of a portrait.
Through experimentation these artists have pushed the boundaries of style, technique and form to deliver a portraiture experience for the viewer, asking them to question the accepted traditions and formalities. Instead embracing the creative possibilities that portraiture holds, where only imagination defines the limits.
